Boys’ Volleyball Anticipates Great Season
By m.thomas • Mar 3rd, 2009 • Category: NewsBoys varsity volleyball season began Feb. 23 and with anticipation the boys have already begun intense practices.
Most of the boys that are to play share the expectation of making it to playoffs.
Another award the boys are striving for is the CIF Academic Championship. Last year the team had the honor of winning this award, and they want this year to be no exception.
This season the team has many returning players as well as the addition of several freshman.
Freshmen that are joining the team, such as Nathan Jenkins and David Wright do not know what to expect yet. Jenkins says that he wants to “get a lot of experience” out of the season.
Returning player David Jenkins, senior, said that the team will be ready for the season if they “get on track.” Kevin Trinh, sophomore, said, “I would like to improve the way I serve, my passing, and especially my setting, because I feel that I set better than anything else I do.”
Most of the boys said that they will be ready for the tough games they will face this season, but some said they will still be nervous.
Matt Thomas, head coach, was clear about his expectations for the team. He said, “This season I expect the freshmen to learn the different aspects of the positions, understand the game, and grow in appreciation of volleyball.” Thomas added, “The team is very solid and has good chemistry.”
The boys are sure to have tough practices and even tougher games. They will have to be able to concentrate on each game if they expect to go far. Thomas added, “They (the team) are poised for a run at playoffs.”
The roster for this season includes seniors David Jenkins, Bryant Trinh, Christopher Anderson, and Timothy Wright; junior Jonathan Lopez; sophomores Tyler Mosier, Sean Yam, Alex Trinh, and Kevin Trinh; and freshmen, Nathan Jenkins, Christopher Morley, Max Ruiz, and David Wright.
