A Long Run
By a.cadenas • Sep 25th, 2008 • Category: SportsOn Thursday, September 18, Coach B. Anderson assigns the cross-country team one of the most grueling practices that he has given so far.
The practice started as a meeting where Coach B. Anderson gave information and fliers on the fundraisers. He told the team that they were going to run around Mile Square Park. He then gave instructions on how to run the course. He said that for half a mile they were to run at a race pace, but the last half they were going to jog and continue to do this all the way back.
As usual C. Anderson and D. Jenkins led the pack well in the beginning of the run. When they got to the intersection of Euclid and Edinger they split off. J. Lopez, T. Mosier, and L. M. Nugyen went one way, and the rest went the right way. C. Anderson was very strong during the run and finished the course first. D. Jenkins and L. M. finished at the same time placing second.
During the run, Coach Anderson, who was in his car, stopped a couple of times to give water, tips, and words of encouragement; but at the end of the run every runner was so exhausted he just wanted to go home.
This year the cross country team is in very good shape. With C. Anderson, D. Jenkins, and T. Wallace leading the team, who knows what can happen. The team has some tough competition this year. Last year they placed fourth in their league, but if they want to repeat or even do better, they are going to have to give it their all.
